How to Take Out a SIM Card?

Learning how to remove a SIM properly can be useful when you want to change SIMs. But the removal process depends on whether you have a regular SIM, a micro SIM, or a nano SIM. If you use an eSIM, you do not have to remove it physically.

Some devices don't come with dual SIM options, which makes changing your SIM inevitable. Plus, when you're travelling for a vacation or a business meeting, using your local SIM carrier can lead to gut-clenching roaming charges.

Wondering how to avoid that? Let's look at some ways to remove your SIM card from your device.

How to Take Out a Sim Card from a New Device?

SIM cards are very delicate, so it is important to handle them with care. Also, shut down your smartphone because ejecting the SIM may cause data corruption and other problems.

Removing the SIM depends on your device. For a device bought after 2014, grab a SIM card ejector tool. The tools come with your device. If you've lost it, you can use a simple paper clip or something pointy and sturdy enough to fit into your SIM card's tray hole.

Make sure the SIM tray faces you. Next, place the narrow end of the tool into the hole and push gently. Ensure the pointy edge is straight and does not insert at any angle.

After the SIM card tray pops out, gently remove it, pull it out, and place it on your palm. Place it someplace safe if you don't intend to use it for a while.

If you're still using a device with a removable battery, you'll have to open the back cover, take out the battery, and slide the SIM from its place.

The process will be different if you're using a phone made before 2014. These phones came with the SIM card tray integrated at the back.

First, you'll have to remove the back cover. The SIM slot might be below the battery or in the device's body. Gently use your fingernails to push and slide the SIM card tray in the direction shown. Take the SIM card out and store it safely.
